Unfortunately there are some false Tamaskan registries operating internationally. These false registries have in common that they were founded by former Tamaskan breeders who have been expelled from the official registries due to poor breeding practices, and they only have a handful of associated breeders (1-3), including the people founding the registry. In contrast to the official registries who each have 10-50 associated breeders working together worldwide. Furthermore, the false registries are known to do minimal or no health testing, and due to their poor reputation and lack of cooperation with other breeders they are forced to either inbreed or include outcross dogs from dubious sources.
Tamaskan Dog Register (United Kingdom)
In 2012, with the help of DNA testing, it came to light that two of the breed founders, Blustag & Blufawn, were falsifying pedigree papers. Several dogs bred by them turned out to have different parents than those listed on the registration documents. Illegal back-to-back breedings, double sire matings and unapproved outcross breedings were covered up. Furthermore, the claim that the entire Tamaskan Dog breed had no wolf content turned out to be false as several of the foundation dogs from Blustag that were imported from Finland were wolfdogs (sleddogs from the Polar Speed kennels mixed with high content American Wolfdog and purebred Czechoslovakian Wolfdog). Subsequently, Blustag and Blufawn were expelled from the Tamaskan Dog Register (TDR). To this day, Blustag and Blufawn continue breeding Tamaskan Dogs in the United Kingdom, and selling them with papers distributed by themselves, using the Tamaskan Dog Register name.
Tamaskan Club of America (North America)
The Tamaskan Club of America was founded by Right Puppy Kennels (RPK). Right Puppy Kennels, who goes by several different kennel names (e.g. Blustag Tamaskan, My Shiba, Yadkin Wolfden) is a large scale puppy mill located in the United States. In 2007 they imported three Tamaskan from the United Kingdom (one male from Blustag and two litter sisters from Moonstone). They were expelled from the Tamaskan Dog Register, after their first litter was born at the end of 2007, due to unethical breeding practices.
Tamaskan Europe Association (Germany)
The Tamaskan Europe Association (formerly known as Pro Tamaskan e.V.), was founded by former Tamaskan kennel vom Nordlicht. They were expelled in 2018 from the Tamaskan Dog Register due to unethical breeding practices (unapproved breeding with a dog affected by a hereditary heart condition).
Tamaskan Original (Norway)
In 2019, Tamaskan Original was founded by Tamaskan kennel Of the North after they parted with the Tamaskan Dog Register (TDR) on grounds of disagreeing with the TDR’s new and stricter breeding regulations, and the addition of low content outcrosses on the basis of adding wolf content, despite continuing to breed their own dogs with content already present. Tamaskan Original acts as a registry to provide paperwork for their only breeder, of the North.
